When you visit one of Camp Fire's licensed school age child care programs you might see kids playing in the gym, doing art projects, playing cards or taking advantage of some quiet time to read or do homework.

If you stay a little longer, and look a little deeper, you'll see the kids learning to have caring relationships with each other and with adults. You'll notice how they are learning to respect themselves and challenge themselves as Camp Fire's staff guide them toward become caring, confident youth and future leaders.

Camp Fire's licensed school age child care programs are located in the school where participants are enrolled, creating consistency for the children and eliminating transportation worries for parents. Participation is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

 SCHOOL CLOSURE INFORMATION

When the Anchorage School District declares an unplanned closure or delayed start, Camp Fire USA will provide child care at designated school sites when there is a reasonable belief that families, children and staff can travel safely to & from site. This plan addresses only those days that are unplanned closure days.

Important Note...
Schools designated for snow days may be different from the school designated for School In-Service or Holidays.

OPENING TIME:
Sites are scheduled to open at 7:30 a.m. Weather and road conditions may cause Camp Fire staff to arrive later than that time. A Camp Fire staff member will be dispatched to arrive at the school at the earliest possible time. Please be patient if conditions cause their delay.
At no time are children to be left at the school site without ensuring that the building is open and at least two Camp Fire staff members are on site. Given this, we ask that you accompany your children into the building.
CLOSING TIME:
Closing time will be at 6 p.m. at all Anchorage schools and at 6:30 p.m. at Homestead School in Eagle River. In order to ensure safe travel for families and staff, on occasion we may contact parents during the day to arrange for early pick up of children.
Return to top of closures

ITEMS TO SEND WITH YOUR CHILD
Please send Nutritious Lunches with your child as well as warm outdoor clothing (a dry change of clothes is also helpful) as they will most likely have the opportunity to play outdoors throughout the day.

SPECIAL NOTE
In the event parents are staying home for the day, Camp Fire asks that they keep their child at home with them as well. “No School” days are wonderful opportunities for your child to sleep in, make snowmen, read books, play with neighbors, help with shoveling snow and SPEND TIME WITH YOU!

SNOW DAY SITEs - Locations TBA

DELAYED STARTS
In the event the School District plans to start school at a later time in the morning, all Camp Fire program sites with morning programs will open at 7:30 a.m. Go to your normal site.
